Dr Oliver Wenker Seminar – Thieves (Part 2 of 3)

Continuing from my last blog post on the Seminar I attended with Dr Oliver Wenker. We are moving on to his studies  and tests he has done on our beloved Thieves Essential Oil:

Thieves
  • Thieves got it’s name from the the Bubonic Plague which back that was highly contagious even by human touch
  • 4 Thieves Vinegar from Marseille were the first product of ‘Thieves’
  • There were many stories about these thieves and Gary Young found it had 4 common ingredients. Clove / Cinnamon / Lemon / Rosemary. Gary himself included Eucalyptus into this mix
  • Test were done where mole spores were released in the air and they diffused Thieves and noticed 90% reduction of mole in the air + it Thieves lasted in the air for one week even after the diffuser was turned off
  • Another study took place where a grounded airline that was delayed in taking off for 3hours and during that 3hours 70% of the passengers got sick from just the air bacteria that was on the place that was grounded
  • Worth looking into Neti pods with the use of x1drop of Thieves EO with your salt water solution to flus out nasal mucus
  • Ever heard of Economy Class Syndrome?
    • This is where you are squashed in your tight Economy Class seat which can cause blood clots of what we call DVT (Deep Vain Thrombosis)

Thieves Cleaning Products

As you might have already read from our previous Thieves posts about Chemical Free Living but here are some additional information taken while listening to Dr Wenker talk about it:

Thieves Laundry Detergent
  • The 20-35 highly toxic chemicals are found in laundry detergent.
  • Some anti-bacterial detergents say they clean bacteria on your garments – well obviously but in fact science found out  that these detergent aren’t very useful in getting rid of the bad microbe but instead washes out the good. Therefore making it worst. Where as in fact you might as well go back to regular soap and water.
  • These chemicals remain on your skin

Thieves Antibacterial Handsoap

Why Thieves and How will it benefit my family?

Why Thieves and how will this benefit your family in the Long run.

Let’s begin with the brief history of Thieves and how the thieves essential oil came about. The history and healing of Thieves essential oil is rather an interesting tale!

http://ww12.younglivingcircle.com

While there are a few versions of the story they all center around one event, which is the Bubonic Plague. It is said that, during that time, four thieves went from house to house to rob those who had succumbed to the illness. After the thieves were captured and tried for their acts of robbery, a judge offered leniency if they would share how they were able to be around those afflicted long and often enough to rob them but not be affected by the illness. It’s interesting to note here that, during this time of the plague striking Europe, physicians were seen wearing long black robes, wide brimmed hats, and masks that appeared to have a beak. The reason for doing this is that the masks were said to have contained a combination of herbs and spices that the physicians would breathe in order to keep themselves safe from those afflicted with the illness. Their long black robes were also said to be doused in a similar fragrant concoction and current research continues to build upon this theory.

THE HEALING POWER OF the herbs & spices

How did the thieves stay healthy and what were the herbs and spices used in the masks of the physicians? During the 15th century plague the thieves used these ingredients :

Cloves, Rosemary and other aromatics to protect themselves while robbing the victims. Thieves essential oil was then created from the research about the four thieves. Thieves is a proprietary blend of pure essential oils tested at Weber State University, Ogden Utah and it was found to have a 99.96 percent rate against airborne bacteria.

Young living Thieves oil:

So what we do know, through extensive use and trial with the Thieves essential oil blend from Young Living is that a powerful combination of clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus, and rosemary have been found to be strong enough to reduce bacterial cultures by 99.96%! This blend was created after years of research results indicated that most viruses, fungi, and bacteria cannot live in the presence of some essential oils.

While I’ve seen the use of Thieves in room sprays (by combining distilled water with 15 drops of the oil) or by rubbing a few drops of the oil on the soles of the feet, there is an entire line of products which highlight the blend. Other way to attain the amazing benefits of Thieves is to add the blend to a diffuser, use the lozenges, or even add one drop of the Thieves Vitality Oil to a glass of water to drink.

The legend behind the oil is as unique as the ability it has to support your immune system. Though it is a small bottle of oil, the power of Thieves is worth every cent for all season. If you use an anti-bacterial soap in your kitchen or bathroom year-round, why not consider making it Thieves Foaming Hand Soap without all the harsh chemicals? Young Living also created Thieves toothpaste and even a household cleaner containing the powerful blend!  I’ve seen testimonies on the benefits of Thieves myself and have used the product to help support my immune system and stay strong while others around me experienced discomfort.

What are Plant Based Cleaners

A plant based cleaner simply means products made with non-toxic, and biodegradable ingredients. However, the ingredients in these green cleaners are plant bases or natural doesn’t necessary mean they are safe.

Image from http://pecantreecottage.com

Consumers must still be wary of what’s in the bottle as the market is largely unregulated. Cleaning products labeled as “natural” may contain some fraction of synthetic chemicals. Certain ingredients like limonene (a citrus based oil) and the foaming agent coconut diethanolamide, all of which can cause allergic dermatitis.

How to make sure your green cleaner is safe?

First, check the label carefully. Look out for CFC’s, benzene, 1,4 dioxane, both of which (commonly used in the usual store bought blue cleaners too) can cause cancer. Other dangerous ingredients to look out for include: Phosphates, phthalates, ammonia, chlorine, ethanolamines, coconut diethanolamide, pine oil etc.

Thieves Household cleaner is a 100% plant based, ecologically friendly, cleaner containing Thieves and lemon YLTGTM essential oils. It is totally safe for use around children and pets and does not contain any of the above-mentioned ingredients.

Another method is to use www.ewg.org/skindeep to check on how clean the product or ingredient.

What are Harmful Chemicals?

What are Parabens?

Image from https://image.slidesharecdn.com/

Parabens are a class of widely used preservatives in cosmetic and pharmaceutical products. They’re chemicals found in beauty products to prevent bacteria and act as a preservative in deodorants, lotions, lipsticks, shampoos, scrubs, and more.

Are Parabens Safe?

Studies have shown that some parabens can mimic the activity of the hormone estrogen and can potentially cause hormone (endocrine) system disruptions in the body’s cells. Estrogenic activity is associated with certain forms of breast cancer, and parabens have been found present in breast tumors.

What is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate?

Image from https://image.slidesharecdn.com

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (commonly known as SLS) is a widely used and inexpensive chemical found in many personal hygiene products such as shampoos, toothpastes, mouthwashes, soaps, detergents, scalp treatments, hair color, bleaching agents, laundry detergents, make-up foundations and body wash.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is a detergent and surfactant which essentially means that it breaks creates a lather which makes products such as shampoo and toothpaste more effective cleaners.

Although SLS originates from coconuts, the chemical is anything but natural. The real problem with SLES/SLS is that the manufacturing process (ethoxylation) results in SLES/SLS being contaminated with 1,4 dioxane, a carcinogenic by-product.

Is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate safe?

According to the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep: Cosmetic Safety Reviews, research studies on SLS have shown links to:

  • Irritation of the skin and eyes
  • Organ toxicity
  • Developmental/reproductive toxicity
  • Neurotoxicity, endocrine disruption, ecotoxicology, and biochemical or cellular changes
  • Possible mutations and cancer

What Is Triclosan?

Image taken from https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com

Triclosan is an ingredient added to many consumer products intended to reduce or prevent bacterial contamination. It is added to some antibacterial soaps and body washes, toothpastes, and some cosmetics—products regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It also can be found in clothing, kitchenware, furniture, and toys—products not regulated by the FDA.

How Safe Is Triclosan?

It is linked to liver toxicity, and even low levels of Triclosan may disrupt thyroid function. Further, the American Medical Association recommends that Triclosan not be used in the home, as it may encourage bacterial resistance to antibiotics.

Chemical Cleaners – The Effects

To get straight to the point the main concern with toxic cleaning products is the toxic that lingers in the air after you have used them. The hazard symbol on that container of bleach warns consumers about the acute health hazards associated with a single or short-term exposure to chemicals in the product.

Unfortunately there is no concrete requirement for manufacturers to warn consumers about the harmful effects due to long-term exposure of the toxic ingredients used in these household cleaning products. We are all exposed to cleaning products and their low level residues.

Inhalation

I cringe when I think back to how my children used to crawl on everywhere and place their fingers in their mouths or dropping food on the kitchen floor and picking it to put it into their mouths. In my mind I didn’t mind it because I thought my floor was mopped daily and was clean. Personally I am glad that I expelled Clorox Bleach from my home for a while before my children were born. Thinking about the toxic smell that is has is enough to give me a migraine.

When we used these products to clean our home. The toxic fumes linger in the air and we breathe them in. David Suzuki Foundation mentions: ~ Researches in the U.S. identified 133 unique volatile organic compounds (VOCs) entitled from a small sample of consumer products, including six cleaning products. Each product tested emitted between one and eight chemicals classifies as toxic or hazardous under the U.S. federal laws.

Through the skin

Image from http://img.webmd.com

We all know that our skin is the largest organ of our body, including the fact that it is porous it will absorb whatever you put on it. It’s a no brainer, chemicals in cleaning products can enter the our bodies through the skin. We all know it, if you are constantly cleaning the house like me, you really have to stop and think about how much of these chemicals we are exposing ourselves to on a daily basis. The days adds up along with the amount our body is absorbing.

It is important to read labels and get educated with all the standard long term cancer causing ingredients. Eyes on this space, we will be doing a post about this soon (edited: Done).

The Environment

Image taken from ttps://mekongeye.n.openearth.net

When cleaning products are getting washed down to drains and our sinks, we are really causing a serious impact on our ecosystem. I’m guilty of this too for a long time, but fortunately the more informed I became the more guilty I felt every time I poured laundry liquid into my detergent compartment of my washing machine.

What if I told you that the way we have been looking at household cleaners all these years was purely a product of very good advertising. When right under our noses we had basic natural alternatives to cleaning all along that cleans just as well. Young Living have derived an easy plant based natural cleaning solution that actually eliminates the use of 7 various different cleaners all rounded up to one simple Thieves Household Cleaning formula.
